Furman's Schubert Finishes Seventh In 10,000m At NCAA Championship

Williams advances to Friday's 3,000m Steeplechase Final

EUGENE, Oregon -- Furman senior Dylan Schubert wrapped up his Paladin career by placing seventh and earning a first team All-America citation in the 10,000m, and senior Carson Williams set a new program record to advance to the 3,000m Steeplechase finals Wednesday at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.

A native of Loveland, Colo., Schubert remained among the top ten runners throughout the race, finish with a time of 29:11.18.  The competitors ran in a pack throughout the majority of the race, with the pace picking up dramatically in the final few laps.

Schubert won the event at the 2025 NCAA East Preliminaries to reach Wednesday's final.  With just 400m left in the race, he was in sixth place, but in the first turn of the final lap, he passed two runners, then with just 200m to go, he picked off two more athletes to move into second place.  Schubert surged into the lead in the final straightaway to claim gold with a time of 29:00.74.

The top eight finishers in Wednesday's finals were deemed first team All-Americans, with finishers nine through 12 earning second team All-America accolades.  Honorable mention All-America citations were bestowed on athletes who finished in 17th through 24th place.

Williams posted a 3,000m Steeplechase time of 8:24.33 to set a new Furman program record, breaking the former record of 8:30.83, which he set at the Bryan Clay Invitational in April, and besting his old PR of 8:29.29, which he recorded at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials.  He qualified in second place for Friday's final, which is set for 8:24 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

The outdoor All-America citation caps off Schubert's historic season and one of the most prolific careers in Furman cross country/track and field history.  He was named NCAA Southeast Region Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year after placing third with a 10K time of 28:39.6 at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championship, marking the highest national finish in the history of the Furman cross country program.  Schubert became the first three-time All-American in Paladin cross country history after finishing 24th at the 2023 championship and 11th in 2022.

The 2023 and 2024 SoCon Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, Schubert, who led the Paladins to their 12th-straight league title and a 17th-place finish at the national meet, won the individual conference title for the third-consecutive year after establishing a new course record of 23:40.1 in the 8K event.  He went on to place third at the NCAA Southeast Region Championship, earning a spot on the all-region team for the fourth-straight year, after winning the region meet in 2023.

Schubert was a 2025 NCAA Indoor Track Championship qualifier in the 5,000m and posted a sub-4:00 mile during the 2024 indoor season.  During his outdoor career, he captured All-America honors in the 5,000m last season after winning the event at the NCAA East Preliminaries to advance to the finals, where he finished 19th.
