Furman Records 16 Wins At Elon Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The Furman men's tennis team got its fall season underway this past weekend participating at the Elon Invitational in Elon, N.C., which was hosted by Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Furman collected a total of 16 victories over the course of the three-day tournament including 12 in singles competition and four in doubles.

The Paladins were one of 13 teams competing along with Elon, Campbell, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Columbia, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, South Carolina State, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, VCU, and Virginia Tech.

Furman sent six players to the Elon Invitational in Nicolas Dispas, Landon Ecarma, Alex Han, Theophile Joly, Barnabás Sift, and Nico Snyder.

The opening day on Friday saw the Paladins record three wins each in singles and doubles. In doubles, Furman received victories from Joly and Sift in Flight C, Ecarma and Snyder in Flight D, and Dispas and Han in Flight D. Joly and Sift topped Julius Augunas and Gabriel Johnson of South Carolina State, 7-6(8). Ecarma and Snyder defeated Georgia Southern's Davis Taylor and Evan Rigsby, 7-5, while Dispas and Han won 6-3 over Thomas Drapeau and Ethan Richardson of Campbell.

In Friday's singles action, Snyder played in Flight C and earned a 6-2, 6-2 triumph versus Campbell's Arush Gupta. In Flight D, Dispas added a straight set victory against James Sims of East Tennessee State, 6-2, 6-3. Ecarma, playing in Flight E, won 6-4, 6-3 over Coastal Carolina's Rivers Cahill.

Furman registered a total of seven singles victories on Saturday. The Paladins picked up three wins at Flight C from Joly, Sift, and Snyder. Dispas turned in one win at Flight D, and Ecarma and Han combined for three victories at Flight E.

In Flight C, Joly won in three sets over Danny Yassine of Charlotte, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 and Sift captured a 6-7(4), 7-5, 10-6 triumph against Georgia Southern's Matthew Mitchell. Snyder defeated Coastal Carolina's Jack Dixon in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Playing in Flight D, Dispas compiled a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win versus Alonso Roca of Elon. Ecarma won twice at Flight E against Campbell's Ethan Richardson, 6-0, 7-6(1), and Alan Trbonja of UNC Greensboro, 6-3, 6-3. Han won his Flight E match when Elon's Luke Forester retired.

The final day saw Furman total two singles triumphs and one doubles win. Sift won twice starting in doubles when he teamed with Joly to top Elon's Nicholas Fisk and Christopher Rodi, 6-4. Sift then defeated Drapeau in singles, 6-4, 3-6, 13-11. Snyder posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Edoardo Santoni of Georgia Southern.

The Paladins return to action September 26-28 at the James O'Connell Memorial Tournament hosted by Northern Kentucky in Mason, Ohio.
