GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The 66th-ranked Furman women's tennis team will battle Wofford Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The winner of the match will be awarded the yearly Pinson Cup by Bobby and Dixie Pinson, beloved friends of both the Furman and Wofford programs. The couple has given a beautiful trophy, which stays with the winning school until the winner of the next season's match is determined, and a generous donation in honor of this rivalry. The Paladins have been awarded the trophy each year since its inception in 2005.
The Paladins improved to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in SoCon play with a 5-2 win over Samford on Sunday. Freshmen Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren, who competed at the NCAA Doubles Championship in the fall, are ranked 31st nationally in doubles, while freshmen Sasha Dimitrov and Murphy are ranked 43rd nationally after notching spring wins over Iowa and Austin Peay.
Wofford moved to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in league play after beating Samford, 4-3, on Saturday. Furman leads the all-time series, 3-4, after defeating the Bulldogs, 6-1, last season in Spartanburg.
Live scoring and live video of the match will be available on the Furman website.
