CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Furman freshman Olivia Hasselbach (+5) is tied for 32nd to pace the Paladins following Tuesday's second round of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at the par-70, 6,177 yard Finley Golf Club.
Hasselbach, a native of Tampa, Fla., carded a birdie on No. 2 then added a second birdie on No. 12 after the turn to finish with a 2-over 72.
Junior Audrey Ryu (+8) birdied four out of five holes from No. 6 through No. 10 and finished the day with a 72 to move into a tie for 42nd with sophomore Jenna Madden (+8), who recorded a 74 with a birdie on No. 6 in round two. Sophomore Eva Ringwald (+12) shot a 74 with three birdies on Tuesday, tying for 52nd, while sophomore Andrea Marin Raga (+7) entered the Furman lineup on Tuesday and scored a 77 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 11.
No. 14 Cindy Hsu (-8) fired her second-consecutive round of 66 to take a one stroke individual lead.
Fifth-ranked Texas (-10) shot 9-under on Tuesday to surge to the top of the leader board. Host North Carolina (-6), which ranks 12th nationally, sits four strokes back in second place, while No. 20 Oklahoma State (+5) ranks third. No. 44 N.C. State (+7) is fourth, followed by 17th-ranked Mississippi State (+9). The Paladins (+33) are in tenth place in the 12-team field.
The tournament concludes Wednesday beginning at 8 a.m. with teams teeing off of No. 1 and No. 10. The Paladins will tee off on No. 10 starting at 8:55 a.m. in the final round and will play in a group with Richmond and Howard.
Furman is part of a 12-team regional field that is battling for a top-five finish and a berth in the 30-team NCAA Championship, which will be held May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. The Paladins, which secured the SoCon's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by capturing their 22nd league championship last month, are making their 26th NCAA Regional appearance. Furman appeared in 17-straight regionals from 1993, when the regional format began, until 2010.
