Furman In Sixth Place Among Highly Ranked Field At Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. -- In a field that contains 15 Power 4 teams, Furman (+4) sits in sixth place following Monday's two rounds of the 22nd annual Cougar Classic at the par 71, 6,279 yard Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.

Four SEC teams and Baylor rank ahead of the Paladins, who scored a 4-over 288 in round one and an even 284 in round two.  The Paladins tied with Miami and Tennessee to lead the field with a 4.73 scoring average on the par 5s, and Furman placed among the top seven with 27 birdies and 116 pars on the day.  

Freshman Rebecca Lee (-1) and junior Eva Ringwald (-1) are tied for 13th to pace the Paladins entering Tuesday's final round.  Lee, playing in her first collegiate event, carded a 72 with three birdies in round one then fired a 69 in round two.  She had a flawless second round with birdies on No. 9 and No. 15 and 16 pars.  Ringwald led Furman with six birdies and a 70 in the opening round then shot a 71 with birdies on No. 9 and No. 12 in the afternoon round.    

Senior Audrey Ryu (+3) is tied for 36th after two rounds of play.  After carding a 73 with birdies on No. 9 and No. 18 in round one, she came alive on the front nine in round two, where she birdied four out of five holes form No. 3 through No. 7.   Ryu, who paced Furman with five birdies in the round after also notching a birdie on No. 16, finished with a 72. 

Sophomore Olivia Hasselbach (+5) recorded a 75 with three birdies in four holes from No. 2 through No. 5 in the first round then shot a 72 with birdies on No. 1 and No. 4 to tie for 47th, and junior Jenna Madden (+6) carded a 73 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 18 and added a 75 in round two to tie for 59th. 

Baylor's Bridget Boczar (-7) leads the field after posting rounds of 69 and 66 on day one. 

Florida (-9) leads the tournament by five strokes over Baylor (-4).  Tennessee (-1) and Arkansas (-1) are tied for third, while LSU (E) rounds out the top five.  The Paladins (+4) are in sixth, ahead of 10 Power 4 teams, including local rivals Clemson (+11 - 11th place), N.C. State (+13 - 12th place), and Georgia (+29 - 17th place) 

The 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.  The Paladins will tee off on No. 3 through No. 6 and will play in a group with Arkansas and LSU.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Live results will be available at https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/245089/scoring/team.
