HANAHAN, S.C. -- Junior Eva Ringwald (-1) placed 14th Monday to lead Furman (+5) to a sixth-place finish in the prestigious Cougar Classic, which included 15 Power 4 teams, at the par 71, 6,279 yard Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.

The Paladins shot a 1-over 285 in the final round and ranked second for the tournament's 54 holes in par 5 scoring (4.78) and fourth with a 4.06 stroke average on the par 4s.  Furman tied for fifth with 43 birdies.  

Florida (-16) blistered the field at 7-under in round three to win the event by ten shots over Tennessee (-6).  Baylor (-5) finished third, followed by Arkansas (-1) in fourth.  Miami (+4) rounded out the top five, just one stroke ahead of the Paladins (+5).  Furman beat 10 Power 4 teams, including local rivals Clemson (+10 - 9th place), N.C. State (+21 - 13th place), and Georgia (+39 - 17th place) 

Ringwald teed off on No. 4 in the day's shotgun start and birdied her opening hole.  She then notched consecutive birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 and added a final birdie on No. 2 to finish with an even 71.  She led field with a 4.44 average on the par 5s and tied for 6th with a 3.94 average on the par 4s.  Ringwald finished just five strokes back of individual medalist Jessica Guiser (-6) of Florida, who won the tournament by one shot with rounds of 70-67-70=207.  

Freshman Rebecca Lee (+3) tied for 30th in her collegiate debut after posting a 75 on Tuesday, while junior Jenna Madden (+4) fired a 2-under 69 and paced Furman with five birdies in round three to tie for 39th.  Senior Audrey Ryu (+5) carded a 73 with four birdies in the final round, tying for 44th, and sophomore Olivia Hasselbach (+6) scored a 72 with three birdies to tie for 48th.  

Furman will entertain 12 teams at the 52nd Lady Paladin Invitational Sept. 18-20 at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville.
