Ricky Spradling is in his second tenure at Furman, having returned in 2013 as assistant defensive line coach on the Paladins' SoCon championship team. The past two years he directed the squad's outside linebacker before assuming the duties of running backs coach this spring.

He first joined Bruce Fowler's staff as defensive quality control and video coordinator for the 2011 season.  In 2012 he gained his first on-the-field assignment as wide receivers coach at Mars Hill (N.C.) College, his alma mater, before returning to Furman prior to the start of the 2013 campaign.

Spradling enjoyed a solid collegiate playing career as a quarterback at Mars Hill, starting for three seasons and setting a pair of school season passing records, including most completions and touchdown passes.  He was a four-time Academic All-SAC honoree.

Spradling graduated from Mars Hill with a bachelor of science degree in sports management in 2009.

The Boca Raton, Fla., native was a three-sport standout at Avery County (N.C.) High School, starring in football, basketball, and baseball and playing in North Carolina East-West All-Star games in both football and basketball.
