Former Paladin Jake Munns is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Furman men’s tennis program.

Munns’ first season in Greenville in 2024-25 saw the Paladins reach the finals of the SoCon Men’s Tennis Championship for the first time since 2018-19 after upsetting top-seeded East Tennessee State, 4-3, in the semifinals in Chattanooga, Tenn. Furman, who finished the season with three wins in its final four matches, started postseason play with a 4-3 victory over fourth-seeded Chattanooga in the quarterfinals before falling to third-seeded Samford in the championship match, 4-3. Theophile Joly was a SoCon All-Freshman Team selection.

Prior to joining the Paladins, Munns worked at Edge Capital Group as an analyst for three-and-a-half years.

A native of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, he played at Furman from 2015-19 under both Whitlinger and former head coach Kelly Jones. He compiled a 48-25 singles record throughout his four-year career and posted a 50-21 mark in doubles competition.

After redshirting in 2015-16, Munns won a career best 16 singles matches and 17 doubles contests during his redshirt-freshman season en route to being selected first team All-SoCon for doubles, second team All-SoCon for singles, and SoCon All-Freshman Team. He went an unbeaten 7-0 in singles and doubles against SoCon competition. Munns added another first team All-SoCon for doubles selection in 2017-18 after winning 14 matches. He collected his third consecutive first team All-SoCon for doubles honor as a junior in 2018-19. In a COVID-shortened 2019-20 campaign, Munns went 8-6 in singles play and 9-3 in doubles.

Academically, Munns was a five-time selection to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete. He also garnered SoCon Academic All-Conference Team citations in 2018-19.

He graduated from Furman in 2020 with a degree in accounting.
