Jake Bhangdia Career Records

Senior year (2019-20):  Bhangdia posted a 9-5 overall singles record and 2-0 SoCon mark during the shortened 2020 season, playing primarily at flight three, where he recorded an 8-1 mark.  He tallied a 6-3, 6-4 win at flight three versus Winthrop then moved to flight one, where he picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over North Greenville.  Bhangdia held on for three-set victories over Charlotte and The Citade;, then concluded the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win at Saint Mary’s.  In doubles action, Bhangdia teamed primarily with Jake Munns, and the Paladin duo concluded the fall season ranked tenth nationally after finishing as runner up at the ITA Carolinas Regional.  Bhangdia, who went 9-2 overall in doubles and was 2-0 against league competition, and Munns defeated tenth-ranked Virginia, 7-6(1), at flight one doubles and recorded key victories versus Winthrop, Davidson, and Richmond.  Bhangdia was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team, and the ITA All-Academic Team.

Junior year (2018-19):  Bhangdia posted a 16-4 overall singles record and 4-3 conference mark, playing primarily at flight four.  He opened the season with a win over S.C. State then held on for a 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(4) victory versus Charlotte.  Bhangdia went on to win eight out of nine matches from Feb. 1 through March 16, beginning with a 6-4, 6-3 advantage over Lipscomb and concluding with a 6-0, 6-4 win over UNCG.  During the streak, he clinched the winning point, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, at flight three to lead Furman past Belmont, 4-3.  Bhandgia concluded the season with six-consecutive singles wins starting with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Chattanooga on March 23.  He held off Samford,  7-6(1), 3-6, 1-0(18-16), in the regular season then defeated UNCG, 7-5, 6-3 to open the SoCon Championships.  In doubles action, Bhangdia teamed with Clarke Wilson at flight two.  The Paladin duo posted a 13-2 overall record and 5-2 league mark and put together an eight-match winning streak mid-season.  Bhangia and Wilson won five-straight matches to conclude the season, holding off both Samford and Mercer, 6-4, and beating UNCG and Mercer in the SoCon tournament.  Bhangdia was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll and the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team. 

Sophomore year (2017-18):  Bhangdia played in primarily in the bottom half of the singles lineup, notching a 14-10 overall record and 4-2 SoCon mark.  He won five out of six matches beginning Feb. 7 versus Presbyterian through Feb. 18 against Gardner-Webb.  In March singles action, Bhangdia opened the month with three-straight wins against Stetson, Rollins, and Valparaiso and went on to win six out of seven matches for the month.  He concluded the regular season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at Mercer then defeated both Wofford and Mercer in the SoCon Championships.  Bhangdia posted a 4-5 doubles mark.  He teamed with Alex Steryous for victories over Presbyterian and College of Charleston the paired with Cameron Green for a 6-3 SoCon win versus The Citadel.  In the semifinals of the SoCon Championships, Bhangdia and Clarke Wilson defeated Mercer, 7-5.  Bhangdia was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll and the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team. 

Freshman year (2016-17):  Bhangdia was named to the All-Southern Conference second team for singles after recording a 10-4 overall record and 6-1 league mark, playing mostly at flight six.  He won nine of 10 matches beginning with a 6-2, 6-7(7), 1-0(10-6) victory over North Greenville and continuing through April 7 when he scored a 6-4, 7-5 win versus UNC Greensboro.  Bhangia notched a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Mercer in the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament.  In doubles play, he was a perfect 6-0, playing at flight three.  He teamed up with four different doubles partners throughout the season and combined with Clarke Wilson for three-straight wins over Butler, Duquesne, and UNC Greensboro.  Bhangdia was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll. 

Prep/Personal:  Jake Bhangdia reached a career-high ranking of fifth in the 18’s Eastern Section following the 2016 season.  The Poughkeepsie Journal 2015 Athlete of the Year, Bhangdia was ranked among the top 100 in the nation on TennisRecruiting.net.  Jake Bhangdia was born on November 21, 1997, in Poughquag, N.Y.  He is the son of Harshan and Linda Bhangdia.  He is studying mathematics.
