Jeff Hull

Jeff Hull is in his tenth season as head coach of the Paladin women's golf team.

After guiding the Paladins to the 2025 Southern Conference Championship and an NCAA Norman Regional berth, Hull was selected by his peers as the SoCon Coach of the Year.  Sophomore Audrey Ryu was voted SoCon Female Athlete of the Year and Edna Hartness Furman Female Athlete of the Year, marking the fourth-consecutive year and fifth time in the last six years that a Paladin women’s golfer has claimed the two awards.  Ryu won individual medalist honors at the league tournament after establishing a new SoCon Championship record with an opening-round 66.  She went on to tie for seventh with rounds of 72-70-71=213 at the NCAA Norman Regional to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championship, where she made the cut to advance to the final round and concluded the tournament in a tie for 47th.  Under Hull’s direction, Ryu led the league with a 72.69 stroke average over 35 rounds to earn her second-consecutive all-conference scroll.  Senior Alise Knudson was also chosen to the All-SoCon team, while Eva Ringwald and Jenna Madden were named to the SoCon All-Freshman team.

In 2023-24, under Hull’s direction, Furman’s Anna Morgan made history when she became the first three-time SoCon Female Athlete of the Year selection and the first three-time Edna Hartness Furman Female Athlete of the Year honoree.  A WGCA first team All-American and GolfWeek second team All-American, Morgan won her second-straight SoCon individual championship, one of four individual titles that she claimed during the year, and was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year for the third-consecutive year.  Besides setting Paladin records for wins in a season, Morgan also set Furman standards in season stroke average (70.1) and career stroke average (72.2).  Morgan also competed in her third Augusta National Women’s Amateur and earned her second U.S. Arnold Palmer Cup team invitation in 2024.  Hull coached the Paladins to their third-consecutive team title at the Lady Paladin Invitational in the fall of 2023, and in the spring of 2024, both Morgan and freshman Audrey Ryu earned individual bids to the NCAA Auburn Regional.  The Paladin duo was named to the All-SoCon team, and Ryu was honored as a member of the SoCon All-Freshman team.

Hull coach the Paladins to the 2023 Southern Conference Championship, Furman’s 20th overall title, and advanced to the NCAA Athens Regional.  Senior Anna Morgan was honored as the SoCon Female Athlete of the Year and the SoCon Player of the year for the second-consecutive season and competed in her second-straight Augusta National Women’s Amateur.  Hull led the Paladins to the team title at the Lady Paladin Invitational for the second year in a row, and Morgan finished as the individual champion at the SoCon Championship and at the UNF Collegiate.  Morgan earned her third All-SoCon team citation and was joined on the All-SoCon team by Chloe Johnson.  Both Chloe and Faith Johnson were voted to the SoCon All-Freshman Team.  The Paladins were honored with a WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award, which is given to the top 25 teams in each NCAA division.

Furman won the 2022 Southern Conference Championship, and Hull led the Paladin team to a 36th-place national ranking.  Anna Morgan, the 2022 SoCon Player of the Year and 2021-22 SoCon Female Athlete of the Year, achieved a national ranking of 16th and was honored with a WGCA All-America second team citation.  Morgan, who was named to the U.S. team for the Arnold Palmer Cup, competed at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, where she tied for 21st among a field of the world’s top 72 amateur players.  Hull led the Paladins to the team title at the Lady Paladin Invitational, where Furman won the tournament by 32 strokes with a three-day total of 841, shattering the previous tournament record.  Morgan captured individual medalist honors at both the Lady Paladin and the UNF Collegiate during the 2022 season.  She was named to the All-SoCon team, along with Sophia Burnett and Sarah-Eve Rhéaume.

The 2021 season was shortened, with the Paladins playing only in the spring.  Furman had an unprecedented three players qualify as individuals for the NCAA Simpsonville Regional, where Anna Morgan, the 2021 SoCon Freshman of the Year, led the team with a 16th-place finish.  Sarah-Eve Rhéaume won individual medalist honors at the SoCon Championships, and the Paladins finished as runners-up.  Morgan, Rhéaume, and Madison Moosa represented Furman on the All-SoCon team.

During the shortened 2020 season, Furman senior Natalie Srinivasan was voted the recipient of the ANNIKA Award, becoming the first winner of the award from a non-Power 5 school.  The Paladins joined an elite group with UCLA as the only two schools nationwide to have won both the Fred Haskins Award (Brad Faxon, 1983) and the ANNIKA Award.  Srinivasan was also honored as the 2020 PING WGCA National Player of the Year and won the 2020 Juli Inkster Senior Award after concluding the season as the top-ranked collegiate women's golfer.  The seventh first team All-American selection in the history of the Paladin program and the first since 1998, Srinivasan won two tournaments, the Glass City Invitational and the Lady Paladin Invitational, in September then opened the spring season with an individual victory at the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne.

Under Hull's direction, Srinivasan, who earned an invitation to the Augusta National Women's Amateur for the second-consecutive year, paced the Paladins with a 70.8 stroke average over 18 rounds in 2019-20, the best single-season stroke average ever for a Paladin women's golfer.  She concluded her Paladin career with a 72.6 stroke average over 118 rounds, the best career stroke average in Furman women's golf history.

In 2020, the Paladin team, which year in and year out undertakes one of the nation's most rigorous schedules, finished as runner up at the Lady Paladin Invitational, and junior Carly Burkhardt was honored with a Kim Moore Spirit Award for overcoming adversity.

Hull, who was chosen by his peers as the Southern Conference Coach of the Year in each of his first three seasons, led the Paladins to their fifth-straight Southern Conference title in 2019, Furman’s 18th overall title.  The Paladins went on to finish ninth at the NCAA Auburn Regional, and Natalie Srinivasan tied for 13th to lead Furman at the regional.

Haylee Harford was named the 2019 SoCon Player of the Year, and Furman placed four players on the All-Southern Conference team.  Harford, along with Jacqueline Bendrick, Srinivasan, and Madison Moosa were named All-Southern Conference.  Harford, who was named to the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup Team, tied for seventh at the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur, while Srinivasan tied for 17th at the event.

In 2018, Srinivasan was voted SoCon Player of the Year, and the Paladins placed five athletes on the All-SoCon team.  Bendrick was named the SoCon Pinnacle Award winner, which is given annually to the player with the highest GPA on the championship-winning team.  The Paladins placed third at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, behind the strong play of Srinivasan, who tied the Furman low-round record with a 65 in the opening round at regionals and went on to finish third, and Bendrick, who also posted three rounds under par to tie for ninth.  Bendrick was honored with the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division I Kim Moore Spirit Award, and Alice Chen earned the 2018 Dinah Shore Trophy.  Furman placed 11th at the NCAA Championships and finished the season ranked eighth nationally.  The Paladins won four tournaments and finished among the top two teams at seven of 12 events.

In his first season as head coach, Hull led the Paladins to their third-straight SoCon Championship.  The Paladins placed a league-record six players on the All-Southern Conference Team, and Srinivasan was named SoCon Freshman of the Year after winning individual medalist honors at the league championships.  Harford was named the SoCon Pinnacle Award winner.  The Paladins went on to finish second at the NCAA Lubbock Regional, Furman’s highest finish since 1999, when the Paladins also finished second at the NCAA East Regional.  Furman won four tournaments in 2016-17 and finished among the top three teams at ten of 12 tournaments.

Under Hull's tutelage, Furman concluded the 2016-17 season ranked seventh nationally after scoring a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.  Harford garnered WGCA second team All-America honors and was named to the Golfweek All-America third team, while senior Taylor Totland also earned Golfweek All-America honorable mention accolades.  Srinivasan went on to compete at the U.S. Open, where she tied for 69th.

Hull, who served as the Furman assistant coach for four seasons and was promoted to associate head coach following the 2016 season, helped the Paladins to a 20th-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Championships.  Following the Paladins' second-consecutive SoCon Championship, Furman's 15th overall title, the team placed fourth at the NCAA Bryan Regional to advance to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2008.  Junior Taylor Totland placed 20th among the nation's individuals, while sophomore Alice Chen was named the SoCon Co-Player of the Year, and Haylee Harford claimed SoCon Freshman of the Year accolades.

As SoCon Champions in 2015, the Paladins made their first NCAA regional appearance since 2010.  Furman placed a league-record five players on the All-Southern Conference team and three on the SoCon All-Freshman squad after posting a record-low 54-hole score of 858 to win the league championship.  Totland claimed SoCon individual medalist honors and was named the 2015 SoCon Player of the Year, while Chen placed second and claimed SoCon Freshman of the Year honors.

Totland, who was honored as Furman's 2015 Edna Hartness Female Athlete of the Year, earned All-American honorable mention accolades from both the WGCA and GolfWeek after tying for fifth at the NCAA East Regional and qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

In his first two years with the Paladins, Hull helped lead the Paladins to a second-place finish at the Southern Conference Championship.

Prior to his time at Furman, Hull, a former All-American at the University of South Carolina, served as assistant coach of the Georgia women's team during the 2011-12 season.  He helped the Bulldogs to an NCAA Regional appearance and No. 9 national ranking.

Hull, who was the Gamecocks' career stroke average record holder when he completed his career in 1989, has more than two decades of experience in the game.  A Class A PGA member and an accomplished professional golfer, he notched victories at the 2004 Georgia PGA Championship, the 2007 Georgia Open and the 2008 Georgia PGA Players Championships. Hull was named Georgia PGA Player of the Year in 2007, the same year he earned the Georgia PGA low stroke average award.

At South Carolina, Hull compiled a 73.68 stroke average over 82 rounds played from 1985-89. He placed 13th individually at the 1988 NCAA Championships to lead the Gamecocks to an eighth-place showing in the team field. That result still stands as the best in the program's history. South Carolina then finished 18th at the 1989 NCAAs during Hull's senior season.

Hull was named an All-America in 1988, was tabbed first-team All-Metro Conference in 1989, and was selected as an All-American Scholar in both 1988 and 1989.

A native of Newark, Ohio, Hull earned his bachelor's degree in retail management from South Carolina in 1989.  He is married to the former Ashley Harmstad of Columbia, S.C., and is the father of a son, Maclane.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT FURMAN HEAD COACH JEFF HULL...

"Furman University is fortunate to have Jeff Hull as its women’s golf coach.  He is a very good player himself, and he brings his knowledge of all aspects of the game to the team.  Jeff’s fun and outgoing personality fosters a great team environment for bonding and learning.  He exemplifies all that is good about the college athletic experience.”
Beth Daniel, Furman Alumna, LPGA Hall-of-Famer

"Jeff is one of the best coaches in women’s collegiate golf.  His ability to understand each of his players individually and develop them to be their best as an athlete, a student and a person is his greatest strength.  Through his leadership, Furman continues to have one of the premier women’s golf programs in the country.”
Cindy Davis, Furman Alumna, Former President of Nike Golf

"Jeff is a phenomenal coach.  He provides great leadership for the team plus has the knowledge to improve all aspects of each girl's game.  Playing under his direction provides a great opportunity to become the best golfer and student you can be.  I wish he had been at Furman when I played there!"
Betsy King, Furman Alumna, LPGA Hall-of-Famer

"Jeff has a passion not only for the game and coaching but, more importantly, for making sure his players are well balanced and prepared for life after Furman."
Dottie Pepper, Furman Alumna, Former LPGA Professional, Golf Commentator - CBS Sports & ESPN

“Jeff is one of the best teachers I have ever worked with.  His immense knowledge of swing mechanics and short game technique has helped me ascend to the next level in golf.  Jeff has truly taught me how to play the game of golf, and I wouldn’t be the player I am without Jeff’s influence.”
Natalie Srinivasan, Furman Alumna, 2020 ANNIKA Award Winner, 2020 PING WGCA National Player of the Year

"Jeff consistently and relentlessly displays his commitment to every facet of the Furman women’s golf program.  His exceptional golf knowledge sets him apart in the coaching world, allowing Furman to remerge as a competitive power house in the Division I golf community among Power 5 opponents.  I am forever grateful to have been granted the privilege to play for and work alongside him as he led our team to multiple championships and several record-breaking performances.  The distinguished skills players gain from Jeff are invaluable and allow them to continue to find success in life after Furman.  As a result of the positive culture Jeff built, I have numerous irreplaceable memories from my time at Furman that I will forever hold close.”
Laura DeMarco, Furman Alumna, Former Furman Assistant Coach

“Jeff’s ability to hone talent is unparalleled in college golf.  With his instruction, I improved not only the fundamentals of my game, but also my ability to think creatively in tough situations on the course. Ultimately, my scoring average dropped at least five shots during my time at Furman, which I attribute in large part to Jeff’s coaching abilities.  Jeff’s talent for developing players’ skills clearly shows—with his coaching, the Furman women’s golf program went from being unrecognized to being a top 5 Division I program in only a few years.  Not only does Jeff care deeply about his players’ golf development, he also sees his players as part of his Furman family.  Jeff makes sure his players feel supported, knowing great golf comes from the ground up.  No matter what challenges college threw at me, I knew I could rely on Jeff to listen and help me navigate the difficult times.”
Jacqueline Bendrick, Furman Alumna, 2018 WGCA Kim Moore Spirit Award Winner

“Jeff is not only a great coach but also a great person.  He developed my golf immensely during my time at Furman and is still always there for support and encouragement as a professional.  I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for having Jeff in my corner!”
Taylor Totland, Furman Alumna, 2015 WGCA All-American

“Jeff has always pushed me to be better and improve my weaknesses.  Because of him, I have grown immensely as both a golfer and a person.”
Alice Chen, Furman Alumna, 2018 Dinah Shore Trophy Winner

“Although I hate to admit that I lost to Jeff most of the time, I always enjoyed our putting contests and learning everything he had to teach about the short game. Jeff is very knowledgeable about all aspects of golf and taught us his skills through very challenging practice drills.  He truly cares about everyone on the team and goes above and beyond to make sure we have everything we need to play our best.”
Reona Hirai, Furman Alumna, 2018 SoCon Individual Medalist

“Jeff is a dedicated and driven coach with a knowledge for the game that allowed me to grow immensely as a player throughout my time at Furman. His work ethic is unparalleled and is something that all of the players on the team can look up to not only on the course and in the classroom, but in all aspects of life.  Jeff made sure he gave each of us individualized attention when needed, while showing us what it means to work together and encourage each other so that we could be successful.”
Haylee Harford, Furman Alumna, 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup Team, 2017 WGCA All-American
