Sue Eckstein

Sue Eckstein joined Furman in 2018 and serves as the associate athletic director for administration. She was promoted to her present role in June of 2023.

In her current role, Eckstein manages the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics calendar, the department calendar, department events, and serves as the staff liaison to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Prior to her promotion, she served as administrative assistant to the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, Jason Donnelly, beginning in November of 2019, representing the athletic department on the university’s Staff Advisory Council while also playing a critical leadership role in the development of Furman Athletics’ strategic plan. Eckstein has also worked as manager of Furman’s Mickel Tennis Center beginning in 2018 and provided administrative assistance to the men’s and women’s tennis programs.

Eckstein came to Greenville after enjoying a 13-year tenure at Trinity School of Durham (N.C.) and Chapel Hill as the director of athletics. During her time at Trinity School, the athletics program grew from seven teams to 32 teams and won back-to-back Wells Fargo Cup Championships (all sports) in 2011 and 2012 in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association.

A native of New Canaan, Conn., Eckstein attended Duke University, where she was a member of the Blue Devils' golf and field hockey teams. Following graduation in 1980 with a degree in English, she began a professional golf career on the Space Coast Tour and later the European Tour. She competed on the LPGA Futures Tour from 1985-87, finishing 21st on the money list in 1986.

Eckstein's husband, Tim, is the general manager/PGA professional at the Furman Golf Club, while her oldest son, Todd, is the head men's golf coach at Wofford. Another son, Tyler, graduated from Furman in 2019 and is currently the coordinator of development operations in the Athletics Development office. Her daughter, Anna, a 2018 Furman graduate who played volleyball for the Paladins, is a nurse at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
