Whitney Purser recorded 13 kills and 12 digs, but it was not enough to overcome a strong defensive showing by Western Carolina, as the Lady Paladins fell 30-25, 30-28, 31-29 in SoCon volleyball action Friday night.
The Lady Paladins lost all three game by a combined nine points, including a pair of two-point decisions in the second and third games. In addition to Purser's solid showing, Chibuzo Aguocha added 12 kills, Ally Hock contributed 11, and Rosey Cashman topped the team with 14 digs.
Though the Catamounts tallied 66 digs to Furman's 57, the Lady Paladins outblocked WCU 7.0 to 4.0, but were outhit .199 to .150. WCU was paced by Kelly Thaut's 16 kills. Stefanie Peters' added 14 kills to the Catamount effort, while four WCU players managed double figure digs.
With the loss, Furman falls to 8-11 overall and 3-4 in the Southern Conference. The Lady Paladins will face the Mountaineers of Appalachian State Saturday in a 6 p.m. game in Boone, N.C.
