Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team improved to 10-12 overall and 5-5 in the Southern Conference with a 3-1 (30-17, 25-30, 30-18, 30-27) victory over the Mocs of Chattanooga, Sunday in Alley Gym.
The Lady Paladins jumped out to a 1-0 match lead with a 30-17 win in game one, outhitting the Mocs .405 to .128, but UTC bounced back with a 30-25 game two win to even the score. The Lady Paladins again dominated game three, posting the 30-18 victory and outhitting the Mocs .268 to .051, but had to hold on for a 30-27 game four win to earn the match victory.
Whitney Purser topped the Lady Paladin offensive effort with 17 kills, and added 12 digs and five blocks to her stats line, while Julia Fredrickson hit an impressive .310 with 13 kills. Ally Hock added nine kills and 10 digs, while Chibuzo Aguocha totaled 16 kills and a .243 attack percentage on the day. Freshman middle blocker Kerry Wooten staked the team to a 16.0 to 7.0 blocking advantage with two solos and six assists on the day.
The Mocs were paced in an all-around effort by Lindsey Galloway's 13 kills and 13 digs, while Dominique Mayor totaled a team-best 22 digs and Juliana Martinez and Sarah Bass each tallied three blocks. Amanda Durfee recorded 18 digs, while also tallying eight kills in the losing effort.
UTC, which falls to 6-15 overall and 3-8 in the Southern Conference will face Appalachian State next Saturday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. The Lady Paladins will host the Wofford Terriers Friday at 7 p.m.
