Four Furman volleyall players recorded double digit kills and three tallied double figure digs, but the Lady Paladins were unable to hold off Davidson, falling 24-30, 30-26, 30-27, 30-20 to the Wildcats Saturday at Timmons Arena.
Furman outhit Davidson .265 to .206, outblocked the Cats 13.0 to 8.0, and had 58 digs to Davidson's 62, but recorded 13 service errors and just three aces, while the Wildcats totaled seven aces and six errors for the difference in the match.
The Lady Paladins jumped out to an early lead, outhitting the Wildcats .486 to .229 to earn a six point victory in game one. Game two was again highlighted by strong Furman hitting (.406), but Katie Pierucci and Liz Williamson tallied six Davidson kills each to lead the Wildcats to the 30-26 win.
Furman again outhit Davidson .159 to .109 in the third game, but the Wildcats recorded four block assists to Furman's two and served up two aces with no errors for the difference in the game. Game four was controlled by the Wildcats, who tallied 18 kills to Furman's eight, 23 digs to the Lady Paladins' 12, and three aces to Furman's zero in securing the 10-point win and match victory.
With the win Davidson improves to 7-13 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play, while Furman falls to 7-10 overall and 2-3 in the league. The Lady Paladins will host Georgia Southern Sunday at 2 p.m. in Timmons Arena.
