CULLOWHEE, North Carolina - The Furman volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Elon Friday in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament in Cullowhee, N.C., to advance to a Saturday semi-final match against College of Charleston, the top seed from the North.

Furman sophomore Whitney Purser recorded 23 kills and a .455 attack percentage to pace the Lady Paladins in the victory. Chibuzo Aguocha and first-team all-conference selection Julia Fredrickson added nine kills each. In addition, libero Rosey Cashman tallied a team-best 14 digs, while freshman middle blocker Kerry Wooten contributed two block solos and two block assists.

With the win, Furman improves to 15-15 overall. Saturday's match against College of Charleston is slated for 4:30 p.m. at the Ramsey Center on the Western Carolina campus.
