Furman Volleyball Falls 3-0 In SoCon Semifinals

CULLOWHEE, North Carolina - The 2004 Furman volleyball season came to an end on Saturday, with the Lady Paladins losing a 3-0 (30-15, 30-16, 30-27) decision to College of Charleston in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Championships in Cullowhee, N.C.

With the loss, Furman fell to 15-16 overall, and bid farewell to seniors Julia Fredrickson, Meg Rohas, and Rosey Cashman.

In Saturday's match, the Cougars of College of Charleston outhit Furman .374 to .108, collecting 61 kills on 131 attempts, while Furman managed just 32 kills on 123 attempts. Four members of the C of C squad recorded double figure kills, with Amanda Timmers leading the way with 15, while Tiffany Blum added 13, Rebecca Wieters totaled 12, and Sara Davis contributed 10. Marie Dobrenz anchored the Cougar defense, totaling 23 digs, while Kaycie Carr earned 44 assists as the primary setter.

The Lady Paladins were paced in the match by freshman Kerry Wooten, who totaled eight kills, while Chibuzo Aguocha contributed seven and Julia Fredrickson managed five. Ally Hock also totaled five kills and added two block solos to her statistics line. Rosey Cashman led the team with 18 digs, while Kim Tonkin added 10.

Furman entered the 2004 Southern Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed from the South and defeated Elon, the North's No. 2 seed, 3-0 in the tournament's first round
