Lady Paladin Volleyball Downs Jacksonville 3-0 at Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, South Carolina - Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team improved to 3-3 on the year with a 30-20, 30-27, 30-14 victory over Jacksonville in the fourth match of the Furman Invitational, Saturday at Timmons Arena.

The Lady Paladin duo of Whitney Purser and Julia Fredrickson continued to roll, with Purser totaling 20 kills and Fredrickson adding 10 in the three-game match. In addition, sophomore Ally Hock totaled a team-best 19 digs to lead the Lady Paladin defense. Libero Rosey Cashman added 17 digs, while Chibuzo Aguocha contributed 12 and setter Molly Rybak added 11.

Furman outhit the Dolphins of Jacksonville .264 to .099, and tallied 74 digs to JU's 61.

The Dolphins were paced in the match by Eva Stoilova's nine kills. Kelly Ryals topped the JU defense with 16 digs, while Stoilova and Petya Borisova each added 12.

With the victory Furman moves to 1-1 in tournament play, while Jacksonville falls to 0-2.

Match Three (Saturday's First Match) Ohio 3, Mercer 0

In the first game of the Furman Invitational on Saturday, the Bobcats of Ohio shoutout Mercer 30-18, 30-18, 30-19, to move to 2-0 in the tournament and 5-1 on the season. With the loss Mercer fell to 3-3.

The Ohio offense was paced in the match by Holly Schetzsle, who knocked down 14 kills en route to a .500 attack percentage. Stephanie Blackburn and Julia Winkfield each added nine, while Michaela Blackburn topped the team with 13 digs and Stephanie Blackburn added 12. Setter Briana Adamovsky totaled 39 assists on the team's 50 kills and led the offense to a .371 attack percentage for the match. Ohio dominated the net defense, recording 12.5 team blocks to Mercer's 3.0. Ashley Elliott paced the net defense with eight block assists in the match.

The Mercer Bears were paced by Katie Plummer's eight kills and Liz Kane's nine digs. The Bears were held to a .028 hitting percentage and hit -.057 in the second game.
