Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team fell to 4-6 on the year Saturday, with a 30-20, 30-24, 30-14 loss to the Hawkeyes of Iowa at the Iowa Invitational Volleyball Tournament.
Sophomore Whitney Purser led the Furman attack with 14 kills on 27 attempts and a .370 attack percentage, but was unable to overcome the Hawkeye duo of Tiana Costanzo (12 kills) and Carolyn Giese (10 kills). In addition to her offensive effort, Purser, a 5-9 oustide hitter from Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., paced the Lady Paladins with 10 digs. Senior middle hitter Julia Fredrickson added seven kills to the Furman effort, while freshman Kerry Wooten topped the team's net defense with three total blocks.
Furmans returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 21, in at 7 p.m. game at UNC-Asheville. The Lady Paladins open Southern Conference play on Friday, Sept. 24, with a 7 p.m. match at Elon.
