Furman Volleyball Shuts Out UNC Greensboro 3-0

GREENVILLE, South Carolina - Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team improved to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Conference with a decisive 30-12, 30-15, 30-22 victory over UNC Greensboro Tuesday night in Timmons Arena.

Senior middle hitter Julia Fredrickson recorded a .545 hitting percentage on 15 kills and added three block assists in the Furman win. Sophomore outside hitter Whitney Purser tallied 11 kills and served up five aces, all of which came during a 12-point serving stint in the second game. Meanwhile, freshman Chibuzo Aguocha recorded a team-best four block while adding 11 kills and one service ace of her own. Freshman setter Courtney Stewardson paced the squad with 44 assists and also tallied two blocks, contributing to Furman's solid net defense.

The Spartans were paced by Alysia Rosvold's eight kills, but the freshman outside hitter was hampered by eight errors which contributed to a -.033 attack percentage for the match. As a team the Spartans hit .030 on the match, while Furman put down 53 kills with 14 errors on 104 attempts for a .375 mark.

With the loss, UNCG falls to 2-14 overall and 0-1 in league play, while Furman improves to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Lady Paladins will return to action this weekend with a Friday night match at The Citadel, while the UNCG Spartans travel to Appalachian State. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.
