Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team improved to 9-13 overall and 5-7 in the Southern Conference with a 3-2 victory over The Citadel Saturday in Charleston.
The Lady Paladins fell 31-29 in game one, but rebounded with a 30-27 game two win followed by a 30-22 victory in game three. The Bulldogs evened the match score with a 30-19 setback of the Lady Paladins in game four, but Furman answered with a 15-12 game five victory to seal the match for the Purple and White.
After hitting a solid .302 in the game one loss, and managing a .275 attack percentage in a game two victory, Furman hit a solid .405 in game three to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Game four saw that hitting percentage drop to a mere .052, however, and Furman had to respond with a .227 mark in the final game to earn the "W" in the match.
Whitney Purser paced the Lady Paladins with a team-best 22 kills. She also hit .286, claimed 14 digs, and served up four aces in the win. Kim Tonkin topped the squad with 16 digs, while Emily Harby anchored the net defense with six total blocks.
Furman returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 25, with a 5 p.m. match against Chattanooga in Alley Gym.
