Furman racked up 74 kills and a .275 attack percentage to post a come-from-behind victory over Appalachian State 3-2 (26-30, 25-30, 30-22, 30-22, 15-13) Saturday night in the Lady Paladins final regular season match.
Junior outside hitter Whitney Purser totaled 22 kills to pace the Lady Paladin offense, while freshman Emily Harby added 17 and Chibuzo Aguocha contributed 14. Molly Ryback anchored the defense with 22 digs, while Ally Hock contributed 15 digs and setter Courtney Stewardson tallied 64 assists and three service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Kerry Wooten led the net defense with three block solos and four block assists.
The Mountaineers managed 56 kills and a .144 attack percentage in the loss and were led by Stefanie Panzer's 14 kills. Chrissy Finch tallied a team-best 22 digs while Brittany Zahn served up four aces.
With the win, the Lady Paladins improve to 13-15 overall and 9-9 in Southern Conference play. Appalachian State dropped to 21-9 overall and 14-4 in league action.
The Southern Conference volleyball tournament begins Thursday, Nov. 17, in Statesboro, Ga. Furman, which finished sixth in the regular season, will face the 11th seeded Bulldogs of The Citadel at 3 p.m.
