Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team advanced to the second round of the Southern Conference Tournament with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-9, 30-22) win over The Citadel Thursday in Statesboro, Ga.
The Lady Paladins will face the second seeded Georgia Southern Eagles Friday at 7 p.m. at GSU's Hanner Fieldhouse.
Whitney Purser, a junior outside hitter from Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., tallied a team best 12 kills and added 11 digs in the Furman win. Freshman middle blocker Emily Harby added 10 kills while Molly Rybak paced the team with 13 digs. Kerry Wooten recorded five block assists in the victory, leading Furman to a 7.0 to 3.0 advantage in blocking. Sophomore Courtney Stewardson tallied 34 assists, setting the Furman team to a .353 attack percentage for the match.
With the win the sixth-seeded Lady Paladins improved to 14-15 overall.
