Furman Men Outhit Appalachian State 6-1

Boone, NC - The Furman men's tennis team improved to 12-11 on the year, 5-1 in the Southern Conference with a 6-1 win over Appalachian State Tuesday afternoon. With the loss the Mountaineers fell to 7-10, 3-4 in conference play.

Furman opened play by capturing the doubles point with wins in all three doubles matches. At No.1 Greg Maarschalk and Ben Pauluhn downed Andrew Taylor and Alex Probst 8-4 while at No.2 Allen Simmons teamed with Will Kieffer for an 8-3 win over Andrew Waters and Dimitar Dimitrov. In the third doubles match Kevin Lackey and Scott Kahler battled for a 9-8 victory over Robert Hogewood and Ryan Brookshaw. In singles play Furman fought off three first set losses to capture the first three matches and went on to win five of the six singles match ups to take the match 6-1.

The Paladins return to action on Saturday with a 1:30 PM match up against Elon in Greenville, SC.
