Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team went on the road in the Southern Conference Wednesday night and lost a 3-1 decision to the Terriers of Wofford in Benjamin Johnson Arena.
The Lady Paladins kicked off the match with a 30-26 victory in game one, but lost a close one 30-27 in game two, dropped a 32-30 squeaker in game three, and fell by a score of 30-18 in the fourth and final game.
Wofford's Brittany Thompson was the engine that powered the Terrier offense, tallying 20 kills in the victory. Christal Carey and Shana Glen anchored the defense with 17 and 16 digs, each.
Furman was paced by middle hitter Celestee Wilson, who tallied 16 kills and a .467 attack percentage on the night. Whitney Purser claimed the team's only double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs, while middle blocker Kerry Wooten led the defense at the net with one block solo and four block assists.
The loss was Furman's first to Wofford since September 26, 2001, and dropped the Lady Paladins to 5-8 on the year and 1-2 in the Southern Conference. Furman returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, with a 2 p.m. match at Georgia Southern.
