Furman Volleyball Falls to Appalachian State in Five-Game Thriller

Boone, N.C. - Brittnay Zahn recorded a game-high 26 kills as Appalachian State defeated Furman 3-2 (23-30, 30-25, 28-30, 30-25, 15-13) on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Center.

Diana Thomas added 17 kills for the Mountaineers, and Cassie Engelgau tallied a team-high 24 digs.

Chibuzo Aguocha led Furman with 21 kills. Nicole Palazzo contributed 14 kills and Ally Hock added 13 kills. Kerry Wooten and Whitney Purser both reached double-digit kills with 12 and 10, respectively.

Stephanie Smith and Purser tied for game-high honors with 27 defensive saves. The total marked the career high in digs for each player. Courtney Stewardson led Furman with 60 set assists, and Palazzo added seven total blocks (one solo) for the Paladins.

With the win, Appalachian State improves to 13-7 overall, 6-1 in the Southern Conference. Furman falls to 9-9 on the season with the loss, 5-2 in conference action. Furman returns to action on Tuesday as the Paladins play host to Wofford at 7:00 p.m. at Alley Gym.
