ELON, N.C. - The 71st-ranked Furman Paladins defeated Elon 7-0 in Southern Conference women's tennis action on the Elon University campus.

Furman swept the doubles matches beginning with Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic's 8-4 decision over Deanna Bailey and Anna Milian at number one. Lauren Osborne and Monica Arguello prevailed over Elon's Paige Kensrue and Whitney Butcher by the same score at number two doubles. In the final doubles match, Elon's Jenn Tucci and Hayley Wahl suffered an 8-2 defeat to Jessica Preeg and Lauren Tomory.

Things did not get any easier for Elon in singles play. At number one, Gioia knocked off Bailey 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in one of two matches to go three sets. The other was at number three where Osborne defeated Kensrue 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Monica Arguello picked up a victory at number two by defeating Milian 6-2, 6-3. At number four, Tucci took a 3-6, 6-7 (2) loss against Preeg. Tomory defeated Butcher 6-4, 6-2 at number five while Wahl fell 2-6, 2-6 to Manjjlovic at number six.

Furman picked up its first SoCon win and now owns a 7-4 overall mark and a 1-0 league record. Elon saw its three-match winning streak come to an end and now sits at 8-5, 1-1.

The Paladins take the court again on Sunday as they host the Georgia Southern Eagles in a 1:00 p.m. match.
