Furman Volleyball Continues to Dominate SoCon With Close Win Over Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. -- Sophomore Alexis Shaffer and junior Kelly Kirby each had 16 kills to lead the Furman volleyball to a close 3-2 win over Appalachian State Friday night in Boone, N.C. With the win, the Paladins continued their Southern Conference, pushing their league record to 8-0.

Furman jumped out to an early 25-13 win in set one before Appalachian countered with a 25-20 victory in set two. The Paladins won set three 25-17 for a 2-1 lead at the break, but the Mountaineers tied the match with a 25-21 win in set four. Furman won a close set five, 15-11, for the win.

Freshman Chandler Ambrester recorded a team-high .522 attack percentage with 14 kills and 10 digs, while freshman Caroline Adams added 10 kills for the Paladins. Shaffer hit .406 and led the team with 5 blocks, and rookie Natalie Braun led Furman with 13 digs. Senior Kelsey Salava continued to lead the Paladins with 61 assists.

Furman (15-3, 8-0 SoCon) will play at Presbyterian Wednesday at 7 p.m.
