Volleyball Entertains The Citadel & College of Charleston This Weekend

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman volleyball team will play host to The Citadel Bulldogs Friday night at 6 p.m. in Alley Gymnasium.  The match will mark the 24th meeting between the two schools. The Paladins defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1, in Charleston last season, then downed the Bulldogs 3-1 in Greenville in the final weekend of 2009 SoCon regular season play.  Furman holds a 23-0 record in the series against The Citadel.

Furman enters the match with a 6-7 overall record and 0-1 SoCon mark after dropping a close Southern Conference opener, 3-2, to Georgia Southern last Saturday night.  The loss snapped the Paladins 19-match conference regular season winning streak and marked Furman's first home regular season loss in 11 matches.  The Paladins battled back twice from a set deficit before dropping the fifth set 15-11.

The Citadel enters tonight's match with an 5-12 overall record and 0-2 league mark.  The Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 loss at South Carolina on Sunday.  In the team's first two league matches, the Bulldogs were defeated by College of Charleston 3-1 and Appalachian State 3-0.

The Paladins will play host to the College of Charleston Cougars Saturday in a rematch of the 2009 Southern Conference Tournament championship match.  The match will be the 40th meeting between the two schools. The Paladins defeated the Cougars 3-1 in Charleston last season, then recorded a 3-2 win in Greenville in the last weekend of SoCon regular season play.  The Cougars handed Furman a 3-0 loss in the league championship match.

College of Charleston enters Friday night's match at Wofford with an 13-4 overall record and 2-0 league mark.  The Cougars opened the Southern Conference season with a 3-1 win at the Citadel, then tallied a 3-1 win at Western Carolina.  Last Sunday, College of Charleston defeated N.C. A&T 3-0 at home.
