GREENVILLE, S.C. -- After opening the 2010-11 season a week ago at Indiana State, the Furman Paladins' women's basketball team returns to action Friday evening when it travels to Macon, Ga., to face the Mercer Bears in a 5:30 p.m. clash at the University Center.
The Paladins (0-1) dropped a 59-36 verdict to ISU in the opener under first year head coach Jackie Carson. Senior guard Kelly O'Connor tallied 10 points to pace Furman, but poor shooting (23.9 percent) from the field leading to a 21-2 early second run by the Sycamores proved to be the Paladins' major undoing.
Mercer is also looking for its first win of the season, having fallen to both Auburn, 79-61, and Georgia Southern, 71-52, under first year head coach Susie Gardner.
Furman dropped a 75-62 decision to Mercer last year in Greenville last year and is just 1-3 all-time versus the Bears. Friday's contest will mark only the second meeting between the two schools in Macon.
