Track & Field Teams Compete At SoCon Outdoor Championships

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Furman men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the 2010 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at Kidd Brewer Stadium on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. The championships begin Saturday at 8 a.m.and run through Sunday afternoon. The event is free to the public.

Paladin sophomore Lee Gilmer currently has the second best time in the conference in the 1500m after recording a time of 3:53.21 at the Alabama Relays and ranks seventh in the 800m with a time of 1:54.54. Sophomore Brian Toney ranks seventh in the league in the high jump after jumping 6-04 at the Emory Invitational.

For the women's team, sophomore Brooke Mosteller, who is also a member of the Furman women's tennis team, ranks fifth in the 5,000m with a time of 17:43.16, followed by sophomore Chloe Kowalski in sixth place with a time of 17:47.79 in the event. Sophomore Rebecca Shelton posted a time of 11:27.92 in the 3,000m Steeplechase at the Furman Invitational for fifth place in the conference, while junior Monique Ositelu is currently sixth in the SoCon in the 800m after posting a time of 2:15.00 at the Furman Invitational.
