BOONE, N.C. -- Junior Charlie McGoogan placed third in the 10,000m with a time of 31:45.99 to earn All-SoCon accolades and lead the Furman track and field teams in the first day of the 2010 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Boone, N.C. Sophomore Jay Miller finished fourth in the event, posting a time of 31:48.01. At the meet, the top eight individuals in each event score, while the top three individuals in each event are awarded all-conference honors.
Sophomore Brian Toney placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 6-00.75 and was 19th in the 200m trials after posting a time of 23.84. Freshman Raul Rodriguez finished 15th in the 400m trials with a time of 51.60 and was 17th in the 200m trials after recording a time of 23.25. Freshman Connor Halliday was 20th in the 200m trials with a time of 24.35.
For the women's team, sophomore Rebecca Shelton finished fifth in the 3,000m Steeplechase with a time of 11:35.54, while freshman Haley Gray was 11th in the event with a time of 11:48.95. Freshman Jessica Pate was 16th in the 10,000m after recording a time of 42:21.19.
In the 800m, junior Monique Ositelu advanced to Sunday's finals after placing third in the trials with a time of 2:15.42. Junior Jenna Callahan was 15th in the event (2:21.62), followed by junior Shannon Cantwell in 22nd place (2:33.71) and sophomore Erin McChristian in 23rd place (2:35.38).
The meet will conclude on Sunday, with events beginning at 8 a.m. and running throughout the day.
