Box Score

Columbia, S.C. – Danielle Au headed in the golden goal in the 101st minute to lift 21st-ranked South Carolina to a 1-0 victory over Furman in the finale of the 2010 Carolina's Cup on Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 1,545 at Stone Stadium in Columbia, S.C.

Christine Watts chipped a ball into the six-yard box and Au headed past Paladin keeper Jessica Smith for the lone goal of the afternoon as the Gamecocks claimed the tournament title for the fourth straight year and improved to 5-1-1 on the season.  Furman, with a 1-1 record on the weekend, finished second in the tournament and moved to 4-3-0 on the year.

South Carolina dominated the offensive end outshooting Furman 26-4 overall and 13-0 in shots on goal.  The Gamecocks limited the Paladins to just one shot after the opening half hour.  Furman, however, absorbed the pressure as Smith notched 12 saves in a losing effort.  The goal by South Carolina marked just the second allowed by the Paladins in their last six games.

Furman had a chance in the 28th minute with a flurry of shots, but could not find the back of the net against Gamecock goalkeeper Mollie Patton who recorded her 27th career shutout.

Following the game, Paladins Smith, Catie Moore and Graham Marchman were named to the all-tournament team.

Furman returns home on Wednesday when its host the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in a 7 p.m. contest at Stone Soccer Stadium.
