Furman, Davidson Draw In SoCon Opener, 1-1

Box Score

Davidson, N.C. – Irravadee Makris netted a 17th minute goal and Jessica Smith tallied five saves as Furman played to a 1-1 draw with Davidson in the Southern Conference women's soccer opener for both teams on Friday evening at 1992 Alumni Stadium.

The draw moved Furman to 5-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the SoCon while Davidson moved to 4-4-1 overall and 0-0-1 in league play.

The Paladins opened the scoring at 16:14 when Makris finished from close range on a rebound off of a Martha Hall shot and save by Wildcat keeper Christy Carry.

Davidson equalized just over three minutes later at 19:27.  After Allison Drutchas' free kick slipped away from Smith, Rachel Barnett pushed a shot over the line to knot the match at 1-1.

Davidson, who outshot Furman 14-10, managed a 5-1 edge in overtime shot attempts but Smith saved the Wildcats only shot on goal to preserve a single point for the Paladins in the SoCon opener.

The Paladins continue their two-match SoCon road trip on Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest in Statesboro, Ga., against the Georgia Southern Eagles.
