Box Score Boone, N.C. -- The 23rd-ranked Furman Paladins played to a 0-0 draw with Appalachian State in Southern Conference men's soccer action on Saturday evening in Boone, N.C.
With the scoreless tie, Furman extended its unbeaten streak to five matches and moved to 11-2-4 overall and 2-1-2 in SoCon play. Appalachian State upped its unbeaten run to 11 matches while moving to 8-2-4 overall and 3-0-2 in the SoCon.
Furman missed its best chance to score less than 13 minutes into the match as Appalachian goalkeeper Danny Free saved a Coleton Henning shot, but Henning pounced on the loose ball only to hit the post with his second effort.
The Mountaineers turned up the pressure after the restart, forcing Paladin goalkeeper Alec Kann into five saves in the second half. In the first overtime, sophomore Martin Ontiveros fired three shots for the Paladins with the third forcing Free into a save.
Neither team was able to test the opposition's keeper in the final 10-minute overtime period as both schools settled for their fourth draw of the campaign.
Kann notched six saves on the night to earn his sixth shutout of the season, while Free stopped five shots for Appalachian State. The Mountaineers managed a 6-5 edge in shots on goal despite Furman holding a 13-10 advantage in total shots.
The Paladins travel to face Davidson on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before concluding the regular season hosting Wofford on Friday at 7 p.m.
