Box Score Mt. Pleasant, S.C. -- Amadu Ndiaye and Coleton Henning each scored a second half goal as 26th-ranked Furman rallied to earn a 2-2 draw with the College of Charleston Cougars in Southern Conference men's soccer action on Saturday night at the College of Charleston Athletics Complex.
With the deadlock, Furman moved to 9-2-3 overall and 1-1-1 in SoCon play. The single points moved Charleston to 5-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in league play.
Eric Fornell opened the scoring for the Cougars in the 33rd minute receiving a pass from Sean de Silva and striking the one-timer past Paladin goalkeeper Alec Kann at 32:17.
The Charleston lead lasted until the 55:20 mark when Ndiaye got onto the end of a Danny Hojaij corner kick at the back post to guide his effort past Cougar netminder Kees Heemskerk for his second score of the season. CofC provided a quick answer and regained the lead only 2:14 later when Ralphie Lundy curled a free kick around the Furman wall and into the corner of the net for his second tally of 2011.
Furman found its equalizer in the 77th minute through Henning's fifth goal of the year. Freshman Clint Ritter floated a pass into the box that Alex Crooks headed back into the path of Henning who finished his chance at 76:52. Both teams had opportunities to break the deadlock with Hojaij forcing Heemskerk into a save, Charleston's Sean de Silva rattling the crossbar and the Cougars' Frannie Twohig missing wide from close range.
Over the two 10-minute overtime periods, the Cougars forced Kann into three saves while Furman's only chance came on Henning's header that flashed high of the bar in the opening minutes of the first extra period.
Furman held a 17-16 edge in shots, including an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal, while earning 12 corner kicks. Kann stopped four shots for the Paladins as Heemskerk registered six saves for the College of Charleston.
