Stanifer Fires Furman Past Presbyterian, 3-0

Box Score

Greenville, S.C. -- Freshman Hannah Stanifer netted a pair of first half goals to lead Furman past Presbyterian, 3-0, in women's soccer action on Friday night before a crowd of 1,011 at Stone Soccer Stadium.

The victory, Furman's first of the season, improved the Paladins to 1-2-0 while Presbyterian dropped to 0-1.

Stanifer, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, opened the scoring at the 20:58 mark as she found space on the left side of the box and hammered a shot over the outstretched arms of the Blue Hose goalkeeper for her first career goal.  In the 38th minute, the freshman deflected a corner kick off of the far post and buried the second effort when the header rebounded back into the middle of the box.

Furman capped the scoring in the 84th minute as India Robinson released Rachel Shelnutt down the left wing and Megan Dougherty tucked away Shelnutt's cross to the far post as the Paladins completed the 3-0 scoreline.

Senior Jessica Smith stopped three shots to earn her first shutout of the season while Sarah Beth Anderson turned away five shots in the loss for PC.

Furman held a commanding 25-7 edge in shots and 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Presbyterian returns home to entertain Clemson in its home opener on Sunday while Furman prepares to travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to face Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida next weekend.
