Paladins Power Past Stetson To Extend Winning Streak To Five, 3-1

Box Score

DeLand, Fla. -- Three different Paladins found the back of the net as Furman extended its winning streak to five matches with a 3-1 victory over Stetson University on Friday evening at the Stetson Soccer Complex in DeLand, Fla.

The Paladins improved to 5-1-1 on the season and upped their mark away from the friendly confines of Stone Stadium to 3-0-1.  The Hatters dropped to 2-4-0 on the campaign with their second loss to the Paladins in as many seasons.

Furman opened the scoring at the 21:28 mark of the first half when sophomore Martin Ontiveros netted an unassisted goal, his second of the year, to put the Paladins ahead 1-0.  Freshman George Fradenburg doubled the Furman advantage just over 12 minutes later with a driving header into the back of the net off of a long cross from Jacob Brown.  The 34th minute tally marked Fradenburg's second goal in the Paladins' past two games.

Exactly a minute into the second half, junior Daniel Hojaij bounced a free kick through the box that slipped past the Stetson goalkeeper to up the margin to 3-0.

Stetson, who outshot the Paladins 13-12, pulled a goal back in the 78th minute as Raffaele Centofanti scored off of a give-and-go with teammate Joakim Helland for his second tally of the season.

The Paladins managed an 8-6 edge in shots on goal while attempting four corner kicks to Stetson's five.  Senior Alec Kann notched the win in goal for Furman with five saves.  Andreas Schnabl turned away five shots in a losing effort for the Hatters.

Furman looks to continue its winning ways when it travels to face Jacksonville University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
