Furman Falls At Charlotte, 89-53

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jennifer Hailey poured in 23 points and Amanda Dowe tallied 20 to help Charlotte cruise to an 89-53 victory over Furman in women's basketball action Tuesday evening at the Halton Center.

Hailey, a 6-foot-3 junior, and Dowe, a 6-foot-4 junior, combined to connect on 18-of-28 shots from the field and 7-for-9 free throws, claim 24 rebounds, and block nine shots in helping the 49ers (8-6) dominate the smaller Paladins (8-5).

Charlotte shot 44.5 percent from the field (38-of-85) and fashioned big advantages in both rebounding (58-41) and blocked shots (15-2).

Epiphany Woodson contributed 12 points and Gabby Tyler rounded out the 49ers' double figure scoring parade with 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds and five rejections.

Furman was paced by freshman Sarah Durdaller's 14 points and seven rebounds.  Kaitlin Murphy added 13 points for the Paladins, who converted just 20-of-72 shots (27.8 percent) from the field and just 3-of-18 treys.

Charlotte grabbed control early with a 19-0 run that expanded a 7-6 advantage into a 26-6  lead following a Woodson 3-pointer with the game less than nine minutes old.

The 49ers led 33-17 with five and half minutes to go in the first period before closing the half with a 14-2 spurt to take a 47-19 lead into intermission.

Furman will return home to face SoCon foe Davidson on Saturday in Timmons Arena in a noon CSS televised game.
