Q&A With Furman Wide Receiver Will King

Box Score

By Heather Gillespie, Furman Sports Information Student Assistant

Will King has been named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll for three consecutive years. The Rock Hill native is a business major.

Q: In high school, you were a standout quarterback.  How has the transition from quarterback to wide receiver been for you?

A: My experience as a quarterback has helped me tremendously.  As a quarterback I have studied defensive tendencies, and now as a receiver I am more aware of those tendencies and it is easier for me to read coverages.   My quarterback experience also helps me with route running and reading the quarterback.

Q: Who is your favorite professor at Furman?

A: Thomas Smythe, my Investment Management professor, is my favorite.  He is very smart, yet he is a very approachable guy.  He could make complex concepts simple and easy to understand.   Dr. Smythe is an excellent teacher.

Q: As a Furman football player, what will you take away from your experience here?

A: I will take away so many great friendships.  All of my best friends are on the team.  I am with these guys day in and day out and I will cherish the friendships I've made for the rest of my life.

Q: What individual goals do you have this season?

A: As a team our main goal is to make the playoffs and to win the national championship.  We would also like to be Southern Conference champs.  My goal as an individual is to contribute to the team and play the best I can in order for us to reach our team goal.

Q: What is the most listened to music on your iPod?

A: I listen to Pandora a lot.  I usually listen to the Cris Cab station or the Wiz Khalifa station.

Q: What are your plans after Furman?

A: I am still undecided.  I may go to graduate school to pursue an MBA or I may go straight into the workforce.  I am working on my resume and looking at jobs. Depending on the feedback I receive, I will make a decision as to which path to take.

Q: What is your favorite Furman team to watch?

A: I enjoy watching our women's volleyball team.  I have never played volleyball so I am intrigued by what they do.

Q: Which current NFL player would you like to have lunch with?

A: I would love to meet Wes Welker.  He is the same type of player I am.  He's a slot receiver who is a hard worker.  I admire his on-field demeanor and his approach of the game.
