Box Score GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Shianne Goodwin scored 12 points and Furman warmed the nets with 53.4 percent shooting to race past Brevard, 79-31, in women's basketball action Tuesday evening at Timmons Arena.
Goodwin, a 6-foot-3 sophomore center, found the mark on 6-of-7 shots and added four rebounds and two blocks in 22 minutes of action to lead Furman (1-1) to its first win of the campaign. It was the first double figure scoring performance in her young collegiate career.
Holli Wilkins followed with 11 points as all but one of the Paladins in uniform scratched in the scoring column. A pair of freshmen — Allison Beasley and Tiara Wood —chipped in nine points and Sarah Durdaller and Kelsey Ellis added eight points for the Paladins.
Furman complemented its solid shooting effort with complete domination of the boards, posting a 49-25 advantage in rebounds, with Savonia Bryan registering a game and career high 12 caroms to lead the Paladins.
Brevard, an NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference, got six points each from Tuccoa Brackett, Hadara Bannister, and Chezney McJunkin.
The Paladins grabbed control from the start, racing out to a 13-2 lead following a Wilkins layup three minutes into the contest.
Furman led 21-10 with six minutes to go before closing the half with a 11-4 run to take a 32-14 lead into intermission.
The Paladins blew the game open with 17-3 run over the first fix minutes of the second half to stretch their advantage to 49-17.
Whitney Bunn and Erica Norwood racked up five assists each for Furman, which finished with 23 assists on its 31 made field goals.
The Paladins play at Arkansas on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
