Furman Stumbles At Wofford, 75-57

Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Morgan Wrightson scored 25 points and Wofford feasted on 25 Furman turnovers to claim a 75-57 Southern Conference women's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at Ben Johnson Arena.

Wrightson's 25-point effort came on 8-of-17 shooting from the field, including 3-of-6 3-pointers, and 6-of-9 work at the free throw line and helped the Terriers (8-19, 3-16 SoCon) halt a five-game losing streak and claim only their second win in the last 11 games.  The triumph also snapped Furman's five-game series winning streak.

Wofford shot a solid 48.3 percent from the field (28-of-58), including 55.2 percent in the second half en route to the victory.

Daniella Motley added 14 points for Wofford, and Chanel Sokes finished with 10.

Furman got 15 points from Teshia Griswold, 13 from Patrice Butler, and Sarah Durdaller rounded out the double figure scoring for the Paladins (12-16, 8-11 SoCon) with 10 points.

Furman found the mark on 23-of-57 field goal attempts (40.4 percent) and posted a 37-28 rebounding advantage, but the 25 turnovers provided Wofford with a 26-8 scoring differential.

The Paladins never led in the game and trailed 32-24 at intermission.

Furman cut the lead to seven points on three occasions in the second half, but Wofford pushed its advantage into double figures for good following a Paladin turnover and Wrightson layup for a 45-34 lead with 12:31 to go.

Furman will entertain the College of Charleston on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Timmons Arena in the Paladins' regular season finale and will carry the No. 7 seed into this year's SoCon Tournament, set for Mar. 8-11 in Asheville, N.C.  The Paladins' first round opponent will be the No. 10 seed, either Wofford or UNCG, on Mar. 8 at 1:45 p.m. at UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena.
