Box Score CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- Taylor Hall and Alex Black scored 12 points apiece and Chattanooga used a dominant rebounding performance to down Furman, 62-44, in Southern Conference women's basketball action Monday afternoon at McKenzie Arena.
The win was the 12th straight for Chattanooga (16-3, 8-0 SoCon), which solidified its hold on first place in the league. Furman (10-8, 4-3 SoCon) dropped its second straight contest.
Hall combined her 12 points with a game high 11 rebounds and seven assists, keying the Mocs, the SoCon's top rebounding team, to a 47-31 advantage on the boards, including an 18-7 margin on the offensive glass. The rebounding bulge helped UTC register 14 more shots (23-of-63) than Furman (15-of-49).
Brittany Hodges paced Furman with a game high 17 points — the Paladins' only double figure scorer.
Furman trailed 26-16 before Hodges delivered a three-point play and Holli Wilkins drained a 3-pointer with one second on the clock to send the Paladins into intermission trailing 26-20.
A Wilkins three-point play two minutes into the second half got Furman to within three points at 30-27.
The Paladins trailed 35-31 at the 13:00 mark before Chattanooga fashioned a 10-1 run, capped by a Black jump shot with 9:37 to go, to take a 45-31 lead and control of the game.
The Paladins cut it to nine at 47-38 following a pair of Sarah Durdaller free throws with six minutes to go, but a layup by Meghan Downes and Ashlen Dewart 3-ball on UTC's next two possessions effectively headed off any Furman comeback.
Furman, which began its two-game road swing as the SoCon's top 3-point shooting team, made just 2-of-15 shots from the beyond the arc versus Chattanooga after converting just 1-of-8 treys in Saturday's 59-58 loss at Samford.
The Paladins return to action on Saturday when they entertain Elon in a 4:00 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.
