No. 22 Furman Earns Fourth Consecutive Shutout With 0-0 Draw Versus James Madison

Box Score

Greenville, S.C. -- Junior Sven Lissek tallied six saves to lead 22nd-ranked Furman to its fourth consecutive shutout with a 0-0 draw versus the James Madison Dukes Friday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

The clean sheet stretched the Paladins unbeaten run to six matches and moved Furman to 4-1-2 on the season, while James Madison moved to 4-3-2.

The Dukes held a 10-8 edge in shot attempts and 6-2 advantage in shots on goal, but Lissek managed to head a ball of his line in the first half and leaped to tip a goal-bound effort over the bar in the final seconds of regulation to preserve his fifth shutout in seven matches in 2014.

Furman best chances to break the tie came in the early portion of the second half.  Freshman Kyle McLagan got on the end of a cross off of a set piece just before the hour mark, but his shot cleared the bar.  Junior Kevin Pahl had an opportunity minutes later when the ball bounced free at the top of the box, but the midfielder's one-timer was blocked out for one of Furman's six corner kicks on the night.

In overtime, JMU earned five corner kicks and held the Paladins to a single shot.  Lissek and the back line were able to maintain the shutout, however, in Furman's non-conference finale.

JMU's Kyle Morton stopped two shots to earn a shutout in goal for the Dukes.

The Paladins open Southern Conference play at home on Tuesday when they host rival UNCG.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
