Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -- Taylor Reece scored 28 points to pace a hot shooting Samford squad to a 76-65  victory over Furman in Southern Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Pete Hanna Center.

Reece connected on 11-of-16 shots, including all five of her 3-point attempts, as the Bulldogs (10-8, 3-0 SoCon) burned the nets at a 56.9 percent clip (29-of-51) to remain undefeated at home this season.  Lydia McGee added 12 points, and Brittany Stevens chipped in 11 points to round out the Bulldogs' double figure scoring trio.

Whitney Bunn led Furman (11-8, 0-3 SoCon) with 21 points and eight assists, followed by Brittany Hodges with 13 points and Holli Wilkins with 10 points.  The loss was the third straight for the Paladins, who competed without Sarah Durdaller for a third consecutive game due to a concussion sustained by the Paladin senior forward against USC Upstate on Jan. 7.

The Paladins also shot the ball well, making 24-of-47 attempts (51.1%), but Furman suffered 17 costly turnovers, which led to a 21 Samford points.

A Wilkins 3-pointer with 6:21 remaining in the first half pulled Furman to within two at 29-27 before Samford responded with a 10-0 run to take a 39-27 lead into intermission.

The Paladins opened with the second half with a pair of Bunn baskets and two Wilkins free throws to slice Samford's advantage to 39-35, but the Bulldogs quickly checked the momentum behind a Reece 3-pointer at the 17:37 mark for a 42-35 lead.

The Bulldogs' Hannah Nichols bottomed out two free throws two minutes later to complete a 10-1 run that put Samford in control, 49-36.

A Savonia Bryant 3-point play with 9:33 to go helped Furman close to within 56-48, but layups by Stevens and McGee pushed Samford's lead back into double digits.

Furman plays at Mercer on Monday in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
