Box Score Johnson City, Tenn. -- Freshman Josiah Baker put Furman in front in the 11th minute and senior Adrian McInnis notched his first goal of the season in the 83rd minute to propel Furman to a 2-0 victory over ETSU Tuesday evening in Johnson City, Tenn.
The victory improved the Paladins to 5-4-2 overall and 4-1-0 in SoCon play, while ETSU dropped to 4-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference.
In the 11th minute, Lewis Hawke unleashed a shot at Bucs goalkeeper Johnny Sutherland that squirted free near the goal line and Baker win the race to the loose ball and fired it into net for his second score of the season at the 10:46 mark.
ETSU upped the pressure on the Paladin defense through the middle part of the match, but senior Sven Lissek tallied five saves to record his fourth shutout in his last five matches. He improved to 5-2-2 between the pipes this season.
A scramble in the ETSU box in the 83rd minute resulted in Furman's second goal of the night as the Bucs were whistled for a foul and McInnis converted from the penalty spot to double the lead at 82:45.
Sutherland finished with three saves for ETSU while absorbing the loss in goal.
The Bucs posted a 15-8 advantage in shots, but each team recorded five shots on goal.
Furman continues its road swing on Saturday when it begins the second half of the SoCon season with a 7 p.m. kickoff at UNCG. The Paladins return home to face VMI on Tuesday, October 20.
