Stephanie DeVita Named SoCon Player Of The Week

Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman midfielder Stephanie DeVita has been named the Southern Conference women's soccer player of the week for all competition Oct. 5-12. The selection is made by the league office.

DeVita scored twice in Furman's 3-0 win over Wofford on Friday, becoming the SoCon's all-time leading goal-scorer in the process. The pair of scores pushed DeVita's total to 60 career goals, surpassing the 59 scored by Georgia Southern's Tara Chaisson from 1996-99.

The weekly award is the second of the season for the Simpsonville, S.C., senior and the SoCon-record sixth of her career, fittingly breaking a tie with Chaisson. DeVita also now holds the Furman women's soccer record for Player of the Week selections with six.

DeVita, who is third in SoCon history with 141 career points, is the active career leader in all of NCAA Division I women's soccer in points and goals and is one of just 10 active players in DI with 30 career goals and 20 career assists.

The game-winning goal over the Terriers was also the school-record 26th of DeVita's career.

Furman (9-4-1, 2-1-1 SoCon) is back in action when it takes on VMI (5-9-0, 1-4-0 SoCon) on Tuesday at the Charlotte Soccer Academy's OrthoCarolina Sportsplex in Pineville, N.C., at 2:30 p.m. The contest is a makeup of the teams' postponed Oct. 4 contest.
