Box Score Greenville, S.C. -- Furman volleyball's Jo Wilks has been named the ScanSource Student-Athlete Leader of the Month for September, it was announced on Friday.
A native of Union Grove, Wisc., Wilks has started all 13 matches for the Paladins this season, and ranks second in the SoCon in assists per set with 11.23. Wilks was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week on September 7, after leading the Paladins to wins over Winthrop, Clemson, and South Carolina to take the Carolina Classic crown. The senior health sciences major sports a 3.756 GPA and is a three-time member of the SoCon Academic Honor Roll, as well as a two-time member of the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team.
Wilks was a recipient of the Commissioner's Medal in 2014 and has been a six-semester member of Furman's Dean's List. The two-time FUVB team captain also serves as an Athletic Service Board/Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member, as well as a Livewell Greenville member and Physical Activities Center student worker.
The ScanSource Student-Athlete Leader of the Month award was created this season to honor Furman student-athletes who excel in the classroom, on the field and in the community. Wilks will be honored with the September award during Saturday's Furman vs. SC State football game at Paladin Stadium.
Furman volleyball (9-4, 3-0 SoCon) takes the floor tonight at 4:00 p.m. in Charleston, S.C., where it faces The Citadel in McAlister Field House. The match is set to be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network and live stats will be available at FurmanPaladins.com.
