Box Score Johnson City, Tenn. -- Freshman Max Fisher notched his first career shutout in goal and Furman picked up a point in the Southern Conference standings on the road with a 0-0 draw at ETSU on Saturday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
The Bucs (9-4-2, 5-1-2 SoCon) built a 16-8 edge in total shots and finished with a 4-2 edge in shots on goal, but Furman's Fisher turned away four shots and the Paladin back line absorbed pressure down the stretch to claim the draw in Johnson City, Tenn.
Furman (6-6-3, 2-4-2 SoCon) was outshot in the first half, but created the best chance of the period midway through the half when senior Lewis Hawke curled a shot from the top of the box that beat goalkeeper Jonny Sutherland only to rattle the right post. In the second half, a long free kick and flick to the right side of the box got Bobby Edet the ball in space, but an ETSU defender deflected the senior's goal bound effort to safety.
ETSU tallied the only three shots in the opening overtime period. In the second 10-minute frame, Furman's Aigbekan Nosegbe got loose on the left side of the box and unleashed a shot that Sutherland smothered to keep the match scoreless. The Bucs' Joao Ramalho found space on the left side of the Furman box with the less than four minutes to play, but Fisher made a diving save on a weak shot towards the far corner.
Sutherland finished with one save for the Bucs, who also were credited with a team save.
Furman returns to Greenville to play its home finale versus Mercer on Tuesday evening. Kickoff on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live through the SoCon Digital Network with live statistics provided through StatBroadcast.
