Box Score Greenville, S.C. -- Wofford's Lucas Altman erased Furman's second one-goal lead of the night with a header in the 85th minute and nodded home Kevin Davidsson's corner kick just two minutes later to lift the Terriers to a 3-2 victory over the Paladins in "The Quinn Game" for Down Syndrome Awareness on Saturday night at Stone Soccer Stadium.
The Terriers improved to 8-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in SoCon play with the victory, while Furman slipped to 5-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the league.
With the Paladins holding a 1-0 lead and under 19 minutes remaining in regulation, Wofford drew a foul outside the box and Davidsson curled a free kick from 25 yards into the upper left-hand corner to knot the match at 1-1 at the 71:34 mark.
Less than 10 minutes later, Furman earned a corner kick and was awarded a penalty kick when a Wofford defender stumbled into Kyle McLagan at the top of the six-yard box. Senior Lewis Hawke slotted the spot kick past Terrier goalkeeper Joe Wichmann to restore Furman's one-goal advantage at the 81:21 mark.
Wofford turned up the pressure on the Paladins and found the equalizer at 84:25 as Kyle Nelson's shot that was saved off the line deflected to Altman who headed past Furman keeper Jonathan Smith for his second goal of the season. Altman secured the win for Wofford just 2:03 later by rising above the defense to head in Davidsson's corner for his second goal of the night to complete the comeback.
The Terriers finished with 12-7 advantage in total shot attempts and an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Wichmann recorded two saves to earn the win for Wofford, while Smith stopped four shots for the Paladins.
As part of "The Quinn Game", Furman and Wofford joined together with the Down Syndrome Family Alliance (DSFA) of Greenville on to promote awareness about down syndrome and to honor one of the program's biggest fans, four-year-old Quinn Cronin, the daughter of former Furman soccer standout McNeil Cronin ('04).
Furman returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to face Mercer. Kickoff in Macon, Ga., is slated for 7 p.m. Links for both the video stream and live stats are posted at FurmanPaladins.com.
