Smith Named Furman's ScanSource Student-Athlete Leader Of The Month For September

Greenville, S.C. -- Furman men's soccer goalkeeper Jonathan Smith has been named the ScanSource Student-Athlete Leader of the Month for September.

A native of Columbia, S.C., Smith has helped Furman to an 8-4-2 overall record and 2-2-2 Southern Conference mark this season. He has posted a 0.00 goals against average in three appearances, combined on two shutouts and registered a solo shutout this past weekend in Furman's 5-0 win at VMI.  The senior double major sports a 3.7 GPA and is on track to graduate with degrees in business administration and economics.

A member of Furman's Dean's List and the SoCon Academic Honor Roll, Smith serves as treasurer for Furman's Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a Hollingsworth Scholar.

The ScanSource Student-Athlete Leader of the Month award was created this season to honor Furman student-athletes who excel in the classroom, on the field and in the community.  Smith will be honored with the September award during Saturday's home-opening football game against Mercer.

The men's soccer team returns to action tonight when it visits Mercer at 7 p.m. on ESPN3. The Paladins return home to host ETSU on Saturday at 7 p.m.
